Types of UPVC Door Handles

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around a point. When you apply a force to the end of the lever it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum to the direction of the force applied. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move things that would otherwise require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the most effective movement. This is called the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended more, the greater the mechanical benefit. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point at which you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum's point and the end of the lever.

Levers can produce different effects depending on the way forces are applied. A lever of class 2 for instance, has a tendency of rotating in the opposite direction once the force of the effort is applied. If you push the handle of a door the force will create rotational effects similar to this.

However, levers don't create energy. They simply multiply the force you apply by converting a small amount of effort across a large distance into a greater amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. This allows you to accomplish more in less time, and that is why levers are commonly used for lifting heavy objects or moving large amounts of cargo. This is also the basis behind levers found in many everyday tools, such as crowbars, fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles are a kind of door handle made from UPVC with levers on both sides to operate the multipoint lock. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes, and are suitable for a range of materials, including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold as a pair for the inner and outer door, with screws and spindles included. They are available in both hand- and non-handled versions to accommodate different types of users.

They are commonly used in new constructions and are installed to replace existing upvc doors. The levers are lifted to open all the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They offer some extra security in comparison to traditional lever door handles because the locking function can only be gained by entering the door with keys unless the door is deadlocked.

They are not as safe as a cylinder lock but they're a cost-effective way to add extra security to your home. The only disadvantage is that they don't provide the same level of security as a cylinder lock, and so don't prevent external access to your home if the door is left open.

Typically, these will be designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version of this called a Paddock lock. They will feature a 92mm cylinder center on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and be equipped with two spindle followers. Some come with a backplate in place, window handles while others are removable for different fixing centers.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches, the simplest of door handles are used. Pushing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door closed, which can be locked using keys. Some lever privacy handles work on the same principle but with a second snib, which is similar to the doorknob.

A snib-button can be very beneficial, especially for homes where it's important to ensure privacy or security. You can use the snib feature to stop your guest from entering until they are ready. This kind of window handle repair can also be used on interior doors such as those in bedrooms where you want to restrict access from outside.

In some cases, snib buttons can cause issues, especially if you have doors and locks that are bent. If the snib is applied in a mistake, or by a person who isn't quite used to it, the door may close and shut you out. Most of the time, you can get in by knocking on the door frame or letterbox, but this isn't the best option.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle design is typically used for front doors. It offers the benefit of preventing the door being opened without the key from outside when the lock hasn't been deadlocked. This is accomplished by using the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.

This kind of handle is made for uPVC doors with multipoint locks that operate using a split spindle operation. This kind of operation requires the lever handle and the external pad handle to be mounted within the same lock case. This could be a straightforward switch from the current uPVC handles but it may also require changing the lock case or a new set of handle furniture to allow this additional function.

These aluminium lever/movable pad door handles are suitable for uPVC doors and feature an easy to maintain slide bearing fixing lugs, fixing lugs and spring cassettes supplied. These handles have an euro-profile cut out and can be mounted on many uPVC or timber doors.

The lever-movable pad is available in many styles to match a wide variety of multipoint locks. They are designed to work with split spindle locks that have a centre cylinder of 92mm and require a specific set of split spindles provided by the manufacturer of the lock.

The lever handles are among the most common types of upvc doors handles. They are available in various designs. It consists of two handles that can be locked and moved with a thumbturn cylinder or a key. A pad handle can be used as a substitute to lever handles. It is comprised of a fixed or moveable pad which can be used to operate the lock.
